The Addis Ababa University (AAU) summer program provides students from all over the world with the opportunity to experience the culture and education of Ethiopia. This program is designed to provide a stimulating and rewarding educational experience for students interested in the history, culture, language and people of Ethiopia.
The summer program is open to students from all academic backgrounds and academic levels. The program offers a range of courses that cover a variety of topics, such as Ethiopian culture and history, the Amharic language, and the religion and art of Ethiopia. Students will also have the chance to explore the beauty of Ethiopia and take part in cultural activities and excursions.
The program starts with a two-week orientation period, during which participants will be introduced to the university and receive an overview of the academic and cultural aspects of Ethiopia. During this period, participants will also visit various sites of historical and cultural importance, such as the National Museum, the Holy Trinity Cathedral, and the Sidist Kilo Monastery.
The academic portion of the program is divided into two parts. The first part consists of courses in Ethiopian culture and history, the Amharic language, and the religion and art of Ethiopia. These courses are designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the country’s culture and history.
The second part of the program consists of project-based learning activities. Students will be assigned a project and are expected to complete it over the course of the program. These projects may include research on the country’s history, culture, and society; the creation of a documentary or web project about Ethiopia; or the development of a business plan for a start-up business in Ethiopia.
At the end of the program, students will receive a certificate of completion. They will also have the opportunity to network with other participants and faculty members, and gain a better understanding of the Ethiopian culture and society.
