The Ugandan People’s Defence Force (UPDF) is set to receive a salary increase in 2022. This was announced by the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) in a statement issued on June 17th, 2021.
The salary increase comes as a result of the MoDVA’s commitment to improving the welfare of the soldiers and their families. The ministry stated that the salary increase would help to improve the living standards of UPDF personnel and their families, as well as to make the UPDF more attractive to potential recruits.
The statement went on to explain that the salary increase would be implemented in two stages. The first stage will involve an increase of up to 10% of the current salary for all ranks. This will be followed by a second stage of up to 5% of the current salary, which will be implemented in 2022.
The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs also stated that the salary increase would be accompanied by other initiatives such as improved housing, medical and educational benefits for UPDF personnel and their families.
The ministry noted that the salary increase would be implemented in tandem with other measures such as the implementation of new technology and the implementation of the National Defence and Security Policy (NDSP). This policy is aimed at improving the security and defence capability of the country and enhancing the professionalism of the UPDF.
Overall, the salary increase for UPDF personnel in 2022 is a welcome development that will help to improve the welfare of the soldiers and their families. The salary increase will also help to make the UPDF more attractive to potential recruits, thus helping to ensure the long-term security of the country.
