Jimma University is proud to announce its PhD Program for the 2022/23 academic year. This program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to pursue advanced research, develop their knowledge, and acquire the necessary skills to become effective researchers and professionals.
The PhD Program at Jimma University is divided into two main components: research and coursework. The research component is aimed at providing students with an opportunity to develop and conduct their research projects in the areas of their choice. The coursework component is designed to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and methods of research in the relevant fields of study.
The research component is divided into two parts: a research proposal and a thesis. The research proposal is a document that outlines the student’s research project and includes the objectives, research questions, and methodology. The thesis is a written work that is based on the research proposal.
The coursework component consists of a variety of courses that are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for conducting research. These courses include research methods, statistics, data analysis, and specialized topics related to the field of study.
In order to be eligible for the PhD Program, students must meet the following requirements:
– Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study from a recognized institution
– Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
– Demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English
– Have obtained a minimum score of 500 on the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)
– Demonstrate proficiency in research and writing
– Provide evidence of prior research experience
In addition, students must submit a research proposal, which will be reviewed by the department. The proposal must include the objectives, research questions, methodology, and expected outcome of the project. The proposal must be approved by the department before the student can begin the research component.
Once accepted into the PhD Program, students are expected to complete the program in four years. During this time, students are required to complete the research component, take courses related to their field of study, and submit their thesis for review.
