Hawassa University Weekend Program (HUWP) is a partnership between Hawassa University and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote learning, research and development among youth in Ethiopia. The program was launched in 2018 and is implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The program aims to provide access to quality education and training to students, teachers and researchers from Hawassa University and other universities across Ethiopia. It aims to create an environment of innovation and creativity by providing access to cutting-edge learning and research opportunities.

The program consists of three main components:

1. Weekend Learning: The program provides access to a variety of weekend learning and research opportunities. The program brings together leading experts from the public and private sectors to provide lectures and seminars on topics related to technology, entrepreneurship, innovation and business.

2. Innovation and Research: The program encourages innovation and research among students and faculty by providing access to funding and resources. It also provides mentorship opportunities to encourage students and faculty to develop their skills and reach their potential.

3. Community Engagement: The program engages local communities and provides opportunities for them to participate in the development of the university and its programs. It facilitates community-university collaborations, supports community initiatives and provides access to resources and support for their projects.
